Ex-Asian champ joins Unity Swim

-

MANILA, Philippines - Cardie Roque, a former Asian age group swimming record holder and currently deputy secretary general of Congress, is joining a slew of government and private sector representatives who will take part in the Philippine Peace and Unity Swim which aims to break the Guinness World Record on Dec. 10 at the Diliman Preparatory School in Fairview, Quezon City.

Former Sen. Nikki Coseteng, spearhead of the epic marathon relay, said Roque will be among over 6,000 swimmers who will attempt to break the record for a 24-hour non-stop swimming relay in an 18.3m pool. The marathon relay was established by a record 5,028 swimmers in Italy last July.

Also joining the epic event, held by the DPS, headed by Coseteng, and the Susan Papa Swimming Academy are PBA chairman Rene Pardo and shooting association president Art Macapagal.

Pardo and Macapagal both pledged to join the swimming event during the SCOOP sa Kamayan weekly forum last October.

Roque, dean of the graduate school of San Beda, had also committed to enlist congressmen and their staff for the event which has already drawn over 5,000 participants from various sectors.

“This will promote swimming and I am proud to be part of it,” said Roque.

DPS will bring together 6,000 swimmers including students, parents, teachers, celebrities, athletes, artists and athletes to the one-day event, which will showcase the Filipino talent to the whole world.
