MANILA, Philippines - St. Francis of Assisi-Bacoor outsteadied Angeles Univ. Foundation, 25-21, 25-16, to clinch the last semifinal berth in the juniors division of the first LBC Men’s Volleyball League at Lyceum gym yesterday.
Kevin Camacho, Robin Marcial and Imran Bagonte rammed in five kills and two blocks each to power the Cavite-based spikers past the fancied AUF side and into the crossover semis of the tournament sponsored by LBC Hari ng Padala.
SFAC actually emerged the top team in Juniors B, nipping Mayamot High School in the quotient after both teams finished the elims with identical 4-1 slates.
St. Francis will take on Sta. Elena in the crossover semis today at the Arellano gym while Mayamot faces Juniors A topnotcher University of the East for the other finals slot.
Mayamot scored an expected 25-10, 25-15 victory over also ran Claret at the close of the single round elims of the tournament backed by Shakey’s Pizza, Toby’s Sports, Dunkin’ Donuts, Mikasa and Asics.
Mark Enciso’s delivered four kills and two blocks while Alfie Mascarinas and Marcelo Sanchez had three kills each for Mayamot High.
It was a sorry setback for AUF, which showed the way in the early going of the tournament but lost steam in the face of SFAC’s determined drive for the semis.
