Angeles, St. Francis dispute LBC semis berth

MANILA, Philippines - Angeles University Foundation and St. Francis of Assisi-Bacoor brace for an explosive showdown for the last semifinal berth in the juniors division of the first LBC Men’s Volleyball League, which winds up its single round eliminations on Nov. 6 at Lyceum gym.

The AUF and the SFAC spikers tote identical 3-1 (win-loss) slates as they share the top spot in Juniors B with Mayamot High School with the winner joining Juniors A topnotchers University of the East and Sta. Elena High School in the crossover semis.

Mayamot HS, meanwhile, is tipped to clinch the other semis seat as it plays Claret School in the other match in the juniors of the league sponsored by LBC Hari ng Padala.

An upset by Claret, however, will force a three-way for second among Mayamot, SFAC and University of Santo Tomas, which ended its elims campaign with a 3-2 slate.

UE and Sta. Elena took the first two semis berths by topping Juniors A with the former sweeping the elims for a 5-0 card and the latter finishing second with a 4-1 mark.

In seniors play, University of the Philippines tries to force a three-way tie for second in Group B as it plays ousted St. Dominic Savio.

The Maroons have an even 2-2 card and would need no less than a win to catch up with National U and UE, which both had 3-2 slates in the tournament backed by Shakey’s Pizza, Toby’s Sports, Dunkin Donuts, Mikasa and Asics.

Arellano took the other semis slot with a 4-1 mark.University of Perpetual Help and Far Eastern U took the two semis seats in Seniors A with 3-0 cards with the Altas and the Tams to dispute the No. 1 in the crossover semis also on Nov. 6.
