Torio, Enciso reign in Skate Manila 2010
MANILA, Philippines - Teeners Rudette Torio and Vernice Enciso put on a pair of dominating performances to rule their respective divisions in the Skate Manila 2010 Championships at the SM Mall of Asia International Skating Rink in Pasay City over the weekend.
Torio, 14, and Enciso, 16, captured the Highest Pointer honors in the High Level Male and Female Divisions, respectively, besting a field of close to 150 before an appreciative gallery at the Olympic-standard skating rink.
Torio captured five golds and one silver medal while Enciso romped away with 12 gold medals and a silver in the three-day meet organized and sanctioned by the Philippine Skating Union (PSU).
“I’m quite happy to win overall honors (in the High Level division),” Torio, a St. Matthew Academy of Cavite sophomore.
“It was great to return to the skating rink and perform this well,” said Enciso, who was the girls’ novice champion in the 2005 nationals but took a five-year layoff to focus on her studies at the Southville International School and Colleges where she is a graduating student.
Siblings Alden Carl Joseph Tan and Adrian Garyth Tan and Michael Ejercito tied for first in the Basic Level Male Level Division while Andrea Ysabel was tops in the Basic Level Female Division.
Mari Anne Estefani was adjudged the Most Artistic in the High Level Division and Shanelle Alexis Mora did the same in the Low Level Division.
Sofia Isabel Victoria Guidote won the nod as the Most Promising in the three-day contest, which had eliminations staged at the SM Mega Mall, SM South Mall and SM MOA rinks before the grand finale at the MOA International Skating Rink.
