UE annexes 7th straight UAAP junior volley title

MANILA, Philippines - The University of the East continued its reign in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) volleyball junior division following a 10-game sweep of the double-round elimination in the 73rd UAAP season at the UE Caloocan Gym from Aug. 21 to Sept. 25.

UE sealed its seventh straight UAAP junior volleyball title after defeating UST, 22-25, 29-27, 25-14, 25-21, in the title match Sept. 25.

The UE team, guided by head coach Rodrigo Roque in a 12-year tandem with assistant coach Ruel Pascual, has now chalked up 10 championships in 16 UAAP seasons. Roque is concurrently UE physical education assistant director and officer-in-charge.

UE team captain Kim Reginald Relcopan won the best server award and emerged the Most Valuable Player while Edward Camposano was rookie of the year

 Other awardees were Darren de Dios (best receiver), Geuel DC Asia (best setter) and team co-captain Carl Michael Manuel (best blocker).

Rounding up the top six are UST, National University, De La Salle Santiago Zobel (DLSZ), Ateneo, and UP, in that order.

In the girls division, UE finished first runner-up behind eventual champion DLSZ. UP and UST finished third and fourth, respectively.

Mentored by head coach Bobby Celso and assistant coach Mark Anthony Delos Santos, the UE Red Warriors volleyball girls also earned individual awards through Eunique Chan (best attacker) and Niña Cristine Baltazar (best libero).
