Hope Christian rules Martin's Cup
MANILA, Philippines - Hope Christian High School leaned on the red-hot shooting of Janrey Garrido, and Errol Villar to crush San Beda College, 96-66, and complete a grand sweep of the eighth Father Martin’s Cup Junior Division championship held recently at the San Beda gym.
Garrido waxed hot with seven triples, including five in a back-breaking second quarter breakaway to finish with 25 points on top of four assists as Hope Christian completed a seven-game sweep of the tournament.
Last year, Hope Christian finished only fourth in the tournament.
Held scoreless in the first half, Errol Villar exploded for 16 points in the last two quarter aside from grabbing 10 boards.
The 6-foot-2 Jessiery Pedrosa also had a stellar performance with 15 points and seven rebounds. Backed by Hapee Toothpaste, Jumbo Plastic and Hope Christian Alumni headed by Stephen Sia, the Hope dribblers swept their group stage elims with a 5-0 record before downing National U, 68-46, in the semis where Pedrosa sizzled with 23 points.
Hope Christian High School ruled the Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation High School Basketball Tournament earlier this month.
