St. Paul's, DLS-Zobel pace ICTSI inter-school
MANILA, Philippines - St. Paul’s College and De La Salle Zobel seized control in the girls divisions even as multi-titled Princess Superal and Gabriel Manotoc took the individual lead in their respective classes at resumption of the first ICTSI Inter-school golf tournament at the Tat Filipinas Golf Club in San Pedro, Laguna recently.
Daniela Uy fired 49 points while Maan Legaspi backed her up with 45 for a combined 94 as St. Paul’s College took a 23-point lead over La Salle-Taft in Girls 1 class of the tournament sponsored by International Container Terminal Services, Inc.
With Pauline del Rosario carding a 43 and Bernice Olivarez Ilas adding a 36, La Salle Zobel finished the first round with a 79, just three up on Assumption which got 39 from Annika Cedo and 37 from Gabrielle Bruce.
Mia Legaspi, who notched a fourth title in the US Kids World Championship in Pinehurst, North Carolina last August, scored 45 but sister Missy could only shoot 21 and the St. Paul’s pair fell by 10 points behind DLSZ with a 66.
Playing for St. Francis Assisi, reigning Asian champion Superal turned in the tournament’s best score so far of 51 to pace the individual race in Girls 1, two ahead of Uy and six on Legaspi.
Acacia School had an individual leader in Manotoc whose 44 was two better than the 42 of Brent’s Christopher Popp. Kristoffer Arevalo of Sacred Heart School was comfortably leading the Midgets 2 side with his 48, 9 more than Ira Alido of Elizabeth Seton.
The Inter-school series is also sponsored Philippine Airlines, Pancake House Group, Teriyaki Boy and Sizzilin Pepper. The other sponsors are Golf Depot, Dynamic Sports and Leisure Corp., McDonald’s, Smart, and Pioneer Insurance.
