Entom Tigers stun Meralco, Pera Padala
MANILA, Philippines - The Entom Tigers pulled off big wins in the ongoing Manila Slo-Pitch Softball League (MSSL) Fall Season by defeating powerhouse squads Pera Padala and Meralco in their doubleheader last Sunday at the Felino Marcelino Basketball Stadium in Taguig City.It was the first time for the team owned by Eladio “Ely” Baradas to beat Pera Padala and Meralco which are perennial title contenders in the slo-pitch softball league.
Pera Padala, the second team fielded by Cebuana Lhuillier, was the first to fall as they squandered a 1-0 lead when the Tigers scored two runs in the top of the seventh and final inning.
Ernesto Binarao had a sacrifice fly with bases loaded, allowing Baron Alqueza to score the tying run.
Francis Avila then fired a single to deep center sending home Andoy Velasquez for the go-ahead run.
The Entom Tigers defense then held Cebuana scoreless in their final at bat to complete the victory.
In the team’s afternoon game, the Tigers under coach Armand Bantoc used the same lineup as they dealt Meralco a 3-0 beating.
The Tigers scored all their three runs in the bottom fourth inning capped by a Marlon Caspillo hit to right center field scoring Anthony Javier and Andoy Velasquez.
Javier boarded base on a fielding error while Velasquez reached base off a walk.
The team’s first run was delivered by Jot Angeles who had a leadoff double to left center, advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by Elmer Mendoza and scored on another sacrifice fly by Alqueza.
With the two huge victories, Entom is now at second place in this seven-team field with seven wins in 10 games.
Cebuana remains atop the standings with 9-1 win-loss record while Meralco fell to third with 6-4 record.
Pera Padala comes in next with 5-3 while Calamba (2-6), Taguig (2-8) and BYOB (1-7) occupy the last three spots in this seven-team tournament.
