Monsalves power LSGH to ICTSI Inter-school lead

MANILA, Philippines - Brothers Ivan and Ryan Monsalve powered La Salle Greenhills to a commanding lead in the Midgets 1 division while Ateneo dominated the Midgets 2 category at the start of the first ICTSI Inter-school golf tournament at the Tat Filipinas Golf Club in San Pedro, Laguna recently.

Ivan and Ryan carded 37 and 35 points, respectively, to pace the Greenies, who pooled a 103 for the day that included Nikolo Gatmaytan’s 31 points.

Despite the absence of Justin Dy, LSGH took a commanding 37-point lead over Brent 2 which owned the day’s best scoring effort courtesy of Christopher Popp.

Ateneo 1 and 2, meanwhile, paced the Midgets 2 side of the competition which serves as part of the year-round talent development program being initiated by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines with the full backing of the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. and other sponsors.

The Inter-school series is also sponsored by Philippine Airlines, Pancake House Group, Teriyaki Boy and Sizzilin Pepper. The other sponsors are Golf Depot, Dynamic Sports and Leisure Corp., McDonald’s, Smart and Pioneer Insurance.

Ateneo 1’s Aidric Jose Chan tallied 38 points while Carl Jano Corpus had 34 for 72 points, 20 up on Ateneo 1’s Marc Elson Corrales and Karl Richard dela Torre. Siblings Alex Delfin and Alex Bernard Trinos of La Salle Canlubang were at third at 43.

The Midgets will play the second and final round at Tat Filipinas on Nov. 7 at the Philippine Navy course in cooperation with the TJGL. The second group is scheduled to play tomorrow (high school, seniors and grade school) and Oct. 24 (juniors) at Tat Filipinas.

Participating are Acacia School, Angelicum, Colegio San Agustin, Kennedy School, La Salle Greenhills, College of St. Benilde, La Salle Canlubang, La Salle Zobel, Ateneo, Assumption, Xavier, Marist, Lyceum, Brent, The Masters, Marist School, Morning Dew, Sacred Heart, St Francis of Assisi, School of the Holy Spirit, St Paul’s College, Beacon, Elizabeth Seton, Immaculate Concepcion Academy and Integrated Montessori.
