RP blanks Timor side for 1st win
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine team frolicked on a rainy Tuesday and fashioned out a 7-0 rout over Timor-Leste for its first victory in the AFC Under-16 Women’s Championship 2011 Qualifying Round 1 (Group A) at the University of Makati football field.
The Nationals went on an attack mode early on and produced their first goal in the 10th minute behind Janna Raizel Barcemo, sparking an early celebration among RP supporters.
Barcemo again scored in the 22nd barely eight minutes after Alessandra Camcam knocked in her first goal for a 3-0 RP lead.
Camcam matched Barcemo’s two-goal effort in the 32nd as the Nationals surged to a 5-0 lead at halftime in the tournament organized by the Philippine Football Federation and backed by the Philippine Sports Commission and Asia Brewery (Summit).
Other scorers for the RP side, which absorbed a 2-0 defeat to Guam last Sunday, were Sara Castaneda (43rd), Regine Metillo (68th) and Kyrhen Dimaandal (80th).
The Nationals, however, face a tough task in their next game as they battle title-favorite Vietnam, which earlier trounced Singapore, 9-0, for the most lopsided win so far in the nine-day tournament.
Meantime, Guam picked up its third straight win by nipping Singapore, 2-1.
The event is a follow-up to PFF’s successful staging of the AFC Under-19 Women’s Championship Group A Qualifiers last month.
