RP tracksters vie in Malaysian Open

- Olmin Leyba -

MANILA, Philippines - Six Asian Games-bound track and field athletes will get to gauge their readiness for the Guangzhou Asiad when they compete in the Malaysian Open Athletics Championships in Kuala Lumpur on Oct. 30-31.

Leading the RP tracksters will be reigning Asian Athletic Championships long jump gold medalist Marestella Torres, who will put to test the fruits of her five-month training in Germany.

Torres will be joined by fellow long jumper Henry Dagmil, hammer thrower Arniel Ferrera, steeplechaser Rene Herrera and javelin throwers Danilo Fresnido and Rosie Villarito.

Eduardo Buenavista, the seventh member of the RP Asiad contingent, will not be in the group as marathon will not be played in the two-day trackfest that will serve as the Pinoys’ final tuneup for the Nov. 12-27 Asiad.
