FEU downs CSB in LBC volleyball

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern U overpowered College of St. Benilde, 25-20, 25-18, 25-20, to stretch its win run to three in the seniors division of the first LBC Men’s Volleyball League at the Ateneo Gym in Loyola Heights, QC over the weekend.

Rodolfo Labrador scored 12 kills and three blocks while Carl dela Calzada and Arvin Avilaea combined for eight attacks and two blocks to give the Tams the solo lead in Seniors A of the tournament sponsored by LBC Hari ng Padala.

University of the Philippines likewise essayed a three-set victory over National U, 25-23, 25-18, 25-23, to improve to 2-1 (win-loss) in Seniors B of the premier class of the league backed by Shakey’s Pizza, Toby’s Sports, Dunkin’ Donuts, Mikasa and Asics.

Jeffrey Lansangan, Michael Arda and Luis Aguilar pooled 21 hits, including nine and seven on spikes by Lansangan and Arda, respectively, to help seal the win for the Maroons.

The Bulldogs fell to their second defeat against a win.

Meanwhile, action resumes today with three seniors matches, including the Tams vs Perpetual Help Altas clash at 5 p.m., also at the Ateneo gym.

FEU will be gunning for a sweep of its group after hurdling Ateneo, Angeles University Foundation and St. Benilde while Perpetual Help seeks its second straight win after downing AUF recently.

Arellano, on the other hand, tries to recover lost grounds as it plays a resurgent UP side at 2 p.m. while San Beda, which stopped Arellano’s back-to-back win start, battles NU at 3:30 p.m.

The Maroons are out to boost their bid as they go for their third win in four games while Red Lions hope to stay in the race as they shoot for their third win in five games at the close of the elims stint in Seniors B.
