Lyceum seeks streak in WNCAA finals

MANILA, Philippines –  Lyceum tries anew to stretch its amazing streak in basketball and volleyball as the 41st WNCAA senior championship ends today at the St. Scholastica’s College gym. 

 In other finals matches, host Centro Escolar University and Philippine Women’s University dispute the Senior B basketball crown while Miriam and De La Salle Zobel play Game 2 of the midgets basketball championship.

 The junior basketball semifinal round pitting defending champion and top-ranked Miriam versus DLSZ and No. 2 Angelicum vs San Beda College Alabang was still being played as of press time.

 Similarly, the St. Scholastica-San Beda and Angelicum-Miriam Final Four junior volleyball tiffs were ongoing late yesterday.

 CEU swept its Senior B volleyball title series against PWU last Sunday to become the first titlist in the 41st season.

 The Lady Pirates, eyeing a fifth straight title, took the Senior A basketball finals opener against the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers, 72-55, but the latter evened the series with a tough 63-60 decision.

In Senior A volleyball, Rizal Technological U forced the 11-time defending champion Lyceum to a Game 3 after an 18-25, 25-15, 26-24, 25-19 win. 

Lyceum bagged Game 1, 25-15, 23-25, 25-21, 14-25, 15-12.   

PWU exacted revenge in the Senior B cage finals with a series-tying 49-46 decision while DLSZ extended its midget title clash against St. Scholastica with a 19-25, 25-16, 25-23 triumph. St. Scholastica took the opener, 16-25, 25-22, 26-24.

The league, which is also enjoying the backing of Mikasa, Molten, Sonak Sports Trading, Taichi, Mojo, CEMG, Goody and MJC Press, also holds the the futsal semifinals today at the CEU gym. The junior Final Four will have sister schools DLSZ and La Salle College clashing at 9 a.m., followed by the Miriam-San Beda clash at 10 a.m. The seniors Final Four will feature the PWU-Miriam and RTU-EAC encounters.
