CCDI Wildcats rule C League regional elims

MANILA, Philippines –  Computer Communications Development Institute (CCDI) Wildcats captured the Champions League (PCCL) South Luzon-Bicol regional championship by sweeping the five-team competition held at Sorsogon Provincial Gymnasium, Sorsogon City.

Playing at home, the Sorsogon champion Wildcats swamped Legaspi City’s Bicol College-Daraga Maroons, 90-63, for their fourth straight win.

CCDI coach Ryan Jalmanzar leaned on Michael Adamos (16 points), Julius Dayona and Jay Desta to repulse the Maroons’ repeated rallies.

The CCDI Wildcats earned a trip to Manila to compete in the Luzon-Metro Manila Zonal qualifying games with a chance to earn a seat in the “Sweet 16” of the Champions League (PCCL) 2010 Philippine Collegiate Championship.

M. S. Enverga U of Quezon finished runner-up, Bicol Colleges-Daraga ended up third, Ateneo de Naga, fourth and Amando Cope College, Tabak fifth.

Twenty provincial champions are seeing action in four regional championships of the annual series sponsored by PLDT, Smart, Molten and ABS-CBN.

The other regional competitions are North-Central Luzon involving champions from Vigan, Baguio, Pangasinan and Pampanga; the Visayas Islands (except Cebu) with champion teams from Iloilo, Bacolod, Dumaguete, Bohol, Tacloban and Ormoc; and the Mindanao region with champion teams from Cagayan de Oro, Davao City, Gen San City and Zamboanga.

The regional champions will compete in the zonal games where the remaining six seats to the Sweet 16 Finals are at stake.

Ten seats in the Sweet 16 Finals of the Champions League (PCCL) 2010 Philippine Collegiate Championship games have already been secured by UAAP champion Ateneo, Far Eastern University, Adamson and La Salle.

They are joined by NCAA heavyweights San Beda, San Sebastian-Recoletos, Jose Rizal and Mapua.

Also seeded in the finals are the top two teams of CESAFI, University of Cebu and University of Visayas.
