Varsity clouters test RP team in PABA Seniors

MANILA, Philippines –  The best from the collegiate ranks test the mettle of the national team as the PABA Senior Open baseball tournament unfolds on Oct. 16 at the historic Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Three-time defending champion Adamson leads six UAAP teams who will do battle with national collegiate champion Rizal Technological University, PRISAA titlist Angeles University Foundation and the national team in the tournament organized by the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (PABA) under tournament commissioner and PABA executive vice president Ely Baradas.

“The tournament will be a two-in-one tournament since it will provide collegiete teams the needed tune-up in anticipation of the opening of their respective leagues and at the same time allow PABA to discover new talents,” said Baradas.

Aside from Adamson, UST, UP, La Salle, Ateneo and National University are also seeing action and will use the tournament as their final tune-up before the UAAP baseball season commences next month.

Opening game at 9 a.m. will pit UP against UST while afternoon game at 1 p.m. will be between RP Entom and RP Philab in a one-game finals for the PABA Super League crown.

Teams will compete in a single round robin to determine the top four teams who will advance into the crossover semifinals.

Winners in the semis will clash for the title in a one-game playoff.

Meanwhile RP Youth-Ateneo and RTU clashes at 1 p.m. today at the UP Bakers Field in Los Banos with the winner taking third place in the Super League.

The game will be part of the Loyalty Day celebration in UP Los Baños with RP-Entom and RP Philab to play an exhibition game tomorrow afternoon.
