San Mateo Spurs clinch WilCab Cup
MANILA, Philippines - The San Mateo Spurs humbled the Say Chiz Smileys, 60-54, to capture the first PGBL Willie Caballes Cup crown at the Rizal Coliseum last Monday.
Eric Uy fired 24 points and finished with five assists, three steals and three rebounds to power the Spurs to the victory. He was also named the finals MVP.
Reuben Terrado led the Smileys with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Ferdie Rubio chipped in 13 points for Say Chiz.
The Tigerscribes downed Charlie’s Dy-mons, 64-56, to clinch third place honors in the tournament sponsored by the PSA, Sen. Chiz Escudero, Magnolia Purewater, Burlington, Pollen-B and the Philippine Sports Commission.
Andy Vergara paced the Tigerscribes with 26 points and 12 rebounds.
Jerome Lagunzad had 10 points and five boards, Air Urquiola had seven points and Joey Villar of the Philippines STAR had a game-high 11 rebounds and wound up with four points.
The Dy-mons’ Teng Masigan emerged as the league’s Most Outstanding Player.
