CEU cops WNCAA Senior B volley title

MANILA, Philippines - Centro Escolar University held off Philippine Women’s University, 25-13, 25-23, 28-30, 25-27, 15-10, to capture the Senior B volleyball crown in the WNCAA tournament at the St. Scholastica gym over the weekend.

Jeramie Martin and Juliet Pearl Gula fired 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Scorpions.

CEU also took Game One, 19-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-9.

In Senior A basketball, College of St. Benilde held Lyceum scoreless in the final 2 1/2 minutes to escape with a 63-60 win and level their series at one game apiece.

CSB’s Jennifer Mayol led all scorers with 23 points while Vartolomhea dela Torre backed her up with 12 points.

Kristina Isabel de Jesus scored 10 points for the Lady Pirates, who are eyeing a fifth straight crown. They won Game 1, 72-55.

In Senior A volleyball, Rizal Technological U likewise forced the 11-time defending champion Lyceum to a Game 3 after posting an 18-25, 25-15, 26-24, 25-19 win.

PWU, meanwhile, exacted revenge in the Senior B cage finals with a series-tying 49-46 decision.

De La Salle Zobel extended its midget title clash against St. Scholastica with a 19-25, 25-16, 25-23 triumph. St. Scholastica took the opener, 16-25, 25-22, 26-24.

In junior volleyball, defending champion St. Scholastica swept the 10-game elimination round as it rallied past Miriam College, 21-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 16-14, at the Lyceum gym to claim the No. 1 spot.  It will face San Beda College Alabang in the semifinals next weekend while Angelicum College will take on Miriam.

DLSZ and Miriam wil dispute the midget basketball crown.
