Milo builds champions in nationwide clinics
MANILA, Philippines - For nearly three decades now, Milo has pursued a mission– to build champions in life – through the highly successful Milo sports clinics.
As participants interact with fellow children, they learn to respect their peers and develop values like determination and honesty, the values being highlighted in this year’s Milo campaign featuring Annie the Honest, Dexter Determinado, Pacey Pursigido, Matt Matulungin, Nono Pinuno and Maki Makatarungan.
Kids turn ripples to huge waves in swimming, fuse grace with athleticism in ice skating, master hand-and-eye coordination in tennis and badminton, and improve skills in football, basketball, volleyball, taekwondo, bowling, gymnastics, table tennis, chess and karatedo while learning valuable lessons in sportsmanship.
Working in coordination with the country’s best sports clubs and associations such as the Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training Center – the pioneer in cage clinics in the Philippines – and the Philippine Taekwondo Association, among others, Milo has through the years produced top athletes who have dominated local competitions and emerged victorious wearing the country’s tricolors on the international stage. Southeast Asian Games gold-medal winning jin Japoy Lizardo, national basketball pool skipper Chris Tiu, and top gymnast Nica Calapatan are a few of the emerging stars who have honed their talents in the Milo-sponsored clinics.
This year, more than 50,000 children have participated in various sports clinics being sponsored by Milo in 848 venues nationwide, which spots and transforms raw talent into medal potentials in 13 sports disciplines.
To cap this year’s activities, standouts in various regional eliminations held in Lingayen, Pangasinan; Marikina, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro will compete in the Milo Little Olympics finals on Oct. 15-17 in Cagayan de Oro.
“Milo will continue to support sports clinics, as well as other sports programs that help nurture future champions in the local and international sporting arena. This, we hope, would equip them the right tool to enable them to come up with their best performance on the bigger stage called life,” said Pat Goc Ong, Nestlé assistant vice president and Milo sports events executive.
