Aboitiz cyclists donate tour prizes to foundation

MANILA, Philippines - Four riders of the AboitizPower Corp. cycling team recently donated P45,000 worth of prizes it won at the 7-Eleven Tour 500 to Aboitiz Foundation, Inc.

Aboitiz Foundation is the Aboitiz Group of companies’ social development arm, which seeks to address the educational, enterprise development, primary health and child care needs of less privileged communities, particularly those in areas where Aboitiz companies operate.

“We are very thankful to the AboitizPower cycling team. Their efforts literally came from sweat and hard work,” said Aboitiz Foundation EVP and managing director Sonny Carpio, who commended 7-Eleven for staging the race.

7-Eleven marketing director Michael Chuaunsu likewise lauded the participation of the AboitizPower cycling team and its decision to donate its winnings to the Aboitiz Foundation.

“We are very happy you chose to partner with the Aboitiz Foundation and use your winnings for a good cause,” Chuaunsu said.

The 7-Eleven Tour 500 drew more than 1,000 riders from Alabang to Tagaytay.

The 60-km road race category for businessmen and executives saw AboitizPower’s Andeng Basibas, a former professional cyclist and Tour of the Philippines veteran, finishing first overall and first in his age group (36-45), earning him P25,000.

AboitizPower’s Dennis Papag and Raffy Cambay, meanwhile both finished second in their respective age groups and took home P10,000 and P5,000, respectively. Ernesto Labador grabbed third place in the 46-55 age group.  

Riders Benjie Salandanan, Danilo Panganiban and Jawy Milanes finished in the Top 10 of their age categories.
