SBC netters one win shy of sweep
MANILA, Philippines - Reigning titlist San Beda fashioned out a pair of victories to remain on track of a back-to-back title bid in the 86th NCAA table tennis tournament at the Arellano U gym recently.
The Lions trounced the San Sebastian Stags and the Letran Knights via 3-0 routs to notch their 10th straight victory, one win away from sweeping their way to their second straight championship.
San Beda however must hurdle St. Benilde in their last second round game today to clinch the championship outright.
A loss will set another match between the Lions and the Blazers for the crown on Thursday.
“We’re taking it one match at a time,” said San Beda coach Kurt de Guzman.
The Blazers needed a fifth and deciding game to turn back the Knights, 3-2, as they geared up for a match with the Lions.
CSB, meanwhile, continued to lord it over the women’s field after it blanked San Beda and Emilio Aguinaldo, 3-0, to likewise move a victory from nailing a six-peat feat.
The Lady Blazers need to repeat over Knights in their rematch today.
In juniors’ action, San Beda walloped Letran and San Sebastian, 3-0. The Cubs need to prevail over Arellano U today to clinch a three-peat.
