Lady Falcons swoop for crown in UAAP caging

-

MANILA, Philippines - Denied of a sweep last time, defending champion Adamson vented its ire on Final Four foe University of Santo Tomas, 92-79, to march to the finals of the UAAP Season 73 women’s basketball tourney yesterday at The Arena.

Analyn Almazan displayed the form that made her MVP for a second straight year, posting a monster effort of 18 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists as the No. 2 Lady Falcons secured the first championship seat.

They await the winner of the other semis pairing between top seed Far Eastern U and No.4 La Salle, which will have to go through a rubber match on Tuesday.

The Lady Tams failed to advance after yielding a 61-64 setback to the Lady Archers in the first game.

Adamson, which could have gone straight into the finals via a 14-0 sweep it not for a 58-60 loss to FEU at the end of the elims, opened with a 27-17 lead and was never really threatened by UST.                              – Olmin Leyba

Almazan was supported by Anna Buendia (22), Katherine Sandel (11) and Gretchie Roque (10 points, 10 boards). Ann Leonardo had 28 for UST.

The Lady Archers chalked up the victory via a 10-6 windup sparked by Hannah Viterbo’s two triples and the charities of Aracelie Abaca and Joy Ong.
