MANILA, Philippines - More than 6,000 members of the University of the East family will participate in aerobics-calisthenics and compete for their respective teams in the “UElympics” kicking off the university’s 64th foundation anniversary today at the UE Caloocan field.
An eight-day program of activities until Sept. 25 and 29 marks this year’s celebrations.
Activities start at 5 a.m. with a motorcade from UE Manila to UE Caloocan prior to the aerobic routines and the “UElympics”.
From the assembly point at UE Manila, the motorcade of UE Warriors, UE cultural groups, students, faculty, employees and alumni will traverse Abad Santos Ave. towards UE Caloocan, converging with UE motorcycle and bikers groups at Abad Santos Ave., corner Rizal Ave. and with UE varsity athletes, other students and faculty members at the Caloocan Bonifacio Monument Circle.
Special performance of the UE Pep Squad and a cheering competition will spice up the anniversary kickoff.
UE marketing dept. executive director Jesus Tanchanco Sr., steering committee overall chairman, said the aerobics segment demonstrates how the UE family values good health and wellness.
Competitions in four events – basketball, volleyball, table tennis and badminton – will be participated in by the UE management employees, faculty members, rank-and-file employees, security, UE Caloocan Selection, University Student Council and International Student Organization.
