RP teams shine in Super Baseball
MANILA, Philippines - The RP Team-Entom routed Rizal Technological University, 14-2, for its second win in the PABA Super Baseball League at the Korean Baseball Center in Carmona, Cavite.
The other half of the RP Team supported by Philab Industries also served notice od its intention to dominate the league with a 22-3 rout of Angeles University Foundation in the other contest.
The Ballbusters tagged three Great Danes pitchers with 28 hits to highlight the one-sided match that was shortened to just seven innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Joseph Orillana and Saxon Omandac starred for the team made up of younger players in the national pool as the two went perfect in five times at bat with Orillana drilling home three runs while Omandac batted in two runs.
So awesome the hitting of RP Team-Philab that they produce runs in all but in the fourth inning.
The win was their first to keep them in a solo hold at second place behind RP Team-Entom who needed a big fourth inning performance to put away the SCUAA titlist.
Both team scored two runs in the first inning and got blanked in the next two frames.
Batting in the top of the fourth inning, RP-Entom produced four hits with lead off batter Vio Roxas boarding base on a single to left.
Ferdinand Recto reach base off an error while Roel Empacis took first on a base on balls from third pitcher Christian Maghanoy.
Another walked issued by the said pitcher to Junifer Pinero allowed Roxas to break the tie and after retiring Andro Cuyugan, Ernesto Binarao batted a standing double to center to score Recto and Empacis.
A run-single by Chris Canlas scored Pinero while another base hit by Reuben Angeles sent home Binarao.
Canlas and Angeles scooted home the sixth and seventh run of the inning of a wild pitch as the Tigers all but secured the victory with a 9-2 lead.
The tournament is being organized by the Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (PABA) that aims to discover new faces and at the same time serves as a tryout for possible members of the national team to compete in next year’s Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia.
