Sta. Elena, Forest Hills dominate Luzvimin golf
MANILA, Philippines - Sta. Elena closed out with a 192 and romped off with an 11-point win over Tagaytay Highlands in Ruby division while Forest Hills completed its wire-to-wire triumph in the Pearl side of the WGAP-Luzvimin golf tournament at the Del Monte Golf Club in Bukidnon last Sunday.
Nancy Ortiga fired 43 Molave points while Therese Dabao and Rio Co chipped in 41 and 37 points, respectively, for Sta. Elena, which also drew 36 and 35 points from Lily Chan and Angie Co, respectively, for that 192 and a 54-hole total of 577.
Tagaytay Highlands settled for second with a 566 after a 201 as Gie Bote shot a 43, Rosalie Heo made a 41, Bern Wong scored a 40 and Hedy See and Totelle Dimson added 39 and 38 points, respectively, in the annual tournament organized by Women’s Golf Association of the Phils.
Negros Occidental, led by Gabby Monfort’s 44 and Jocelyn Garcia’s 43 points, placed third with a 563 after a 193 followed by Alta Vista (189-538), Camp John Hay (170-519) and Cebu Country Club (168-505).
Forest Hills dominated the Pearl division with a 545 aggregate after a 182 for a similar 11-point victory over Bacolod, which had a 534 after a 185. Villamor slid to third with a 529 after a 170 followed by Manila Golf (173-478), Mactan Island (155-471) and Riviera (156-442).
Lily Young fired 43 points to lead Forest Hills’ charge with Ma. Cecile Tan, Tess Staub, Violy Pegels and Monique Ignacio counting in the seven-to-play, five-to-count format with 38, 36, 33 and 32 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, Dana Gonzales of Aguinaldo topped Class A (11-15) in the individual play with a 142, while Del Monte’s Rainstar Roque pooled a 124 and posted a five-point win in Class B (16-21). Aguinaldo dominated Class C with teammates Venus Hufalar and Marie Guerrero taking the top two spots with 110 and 106, respectively.
Manila Southwoods beat Del Monte side, 729-726, to complete a three-peat in the premier Diamond division with top player Regine de Guzman also running away with her third straight crown in the individual competition with a 168 for a nine-point victory over Aguinaldo’s Matet Salivio.
