LBC supports men's volley tilt
MANILA, Philippines - Men’s volleyball got a big boost when LBC, the country’s leading remittance and courier company, committed to support a men’s volleyball league featuring 24 teams, including 12 each in the high school and varsity divisions.
Dubbed as the LBC Men’s Volleyball League, the tournament will kick off on Sept. 11 starting at 9 a.m. at the Ateneo Blue Eagle gym. Succeeding games will be played at the Lyceum gym, Arellano gym and the new Poveda Sports Complex.
“We at LBC look forward to making volleyball grow nationwide by offering an opportunity for new players to further develop and hone up their skills,” said LBC vice president for marketing Javier Mantecon.
Ateneo de Manila University and University of Santo Tomas head the early roster of teams in the nine-week league. Others in the fold are National University, Claret School of QC, Colegio San Agustin, University of the East, University of Perpetual Help Laguna, Angeles University Foundation, Xavier School, University of the Philippines and San Sebastian College.
“This is indeed a welcome development that LBC joins the PVF in helping develop volleyball in the boys’ and men’s divisions,” said Philippine Volleyball Federation president Pete Mendoza.
Coaches have also expressed enthusiasm in the upcoming league organized by Metro Sports and backed by Shakey’s Pizza, Toby’s Sports, Dunkin’ Donuts, Mikasa and Asics.
