UE Juniors cop three taekwondo crowns
MANILA, Philippines - The University of the East Red Warriors’ junior taekwondo team lived up to its warrior tag after scoring victories in the 33rd Smart National Championship held July 31-Aug.1, at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
The UE Junior Warrior-Jins won the championship in the junior men’s advanced, junior women’s advanced and junior men’s novice divisions.
The junior men’s team includes UE Manila’s Secondary Laboratory School (SLS) students Ace Flores (junior flyweight), John Nityananda Lim (junior bantamweight) and Sean Rodriguez (junior finweight).
The members of the junior women’s team are UE Manila high school students Debbie Petilo (featherweight) and Saskia Van Samia (flyweight).
The UE Junior men’s novice team is composed of UE Manila’s SLS students Dale Brion, Aaron Galita, Carl Garcia, King Philip Pineda and Jenar Torillos.
The head coaches are Michael Martires, faculty member of the Feco math department of the UE College of Business Administration, and Ramon Tusi. SEA Games gold medalist Jeffrey Figueroa is assistant coach.
