Lyceum launches bid for 11th straight title

MANILA, Philippines - Lyceum opens its quest for an 11th straight volleyball title against University of Asia and the Pacific this weekend at the resumption of the 41st WNCAA in separate venues.

The Lady Pirates will take on the UA&P Dragons, last season’s Season B winner, tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the St. Scholastica’s College gym.

In today’s matches, midget defending champion San Beda College Alabang tackles St. Paul College Pasig at 9 a.m., eyeing a second straight win after beating newcomer Poveda, 25-11, 25-20, last week.

In Senior A basketball tomorrow, four-time defending champion Lyceum and Rizal Technological University dispute the solo lead at 3:30 p.m. at the Lyceum gym.

Lyceum debuted with a 99-38 victory over St. Scholastica while RTU dealt La Consolacion College Manila a second straight defeat, 64-35, in the league being supported by official media partner Philippine Daily Inquirer, Mikasa, Molten, Sonak Sports Trading, Manila Bulletin, Lenovo, Solar Sports, Monster Radio RX 93.1, Taichi, Mojo, CEMG, Goody and MJC Press.

College of St. Benilde will make it a two-way tie for top spot at 2-0 if it prevails over La Consolacion in their 12:30 p.m. encounter.

Host Centro Escolar University and Philippine Women’s University clash for the Senior A lead at 9:30 a.m.

CEU beat San Beda, 72-44, and PWU downed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 69-43, during the opening weekend.

St Paul debuts in the junior division against rookie team Poveda at 12:30 p.m. Poveda’s midget team ovewhelmed St. Paul, 37-21, on Aug. 7.
