MYC hosts 43rd Asean Day Regatta

MANILA, Philippines -  In celebration of Asean Day, Sailability Philippines in cooperation with the Philippine Sailing Association and Philspada-NPC Philippines, is holding the 43rd Day ASEAN Regatta until today at the Manila Yacht Club.

This is also in cooperation with the Asean Disability Sailing Federation and Sailability Singapore and the Philippine Sports Commission.

The three-day event is made possible by the Manila Yacht Club (MYC) and APL Logistics Philippines, .

The event’s highlights include a sailing demontration using Access 2.3 dinghys skippered by disabled sailors, mini-regatta that will be participated in by sailing trainers from Sailability Philippines and the closing ceremony which will have PSC chair Richie Garcia as guest speaker.

The rotational hosting of the Asean Day Regatta was initiated by Frankie Thanapal, chairman of the Asean Disability Sailing Federation (ADSF) at the close of the Asean Day Regatta 2009 in Malaysia in August. Manila was the chosen host for this year’s event.

“We are honored to continue this tradition,” said PSA president Claudio Altura. “It stands for remarkable teamwork, sportsmanship and hope. Our committees and volunteers look forward to provide new sailors, our friends and partners, perspective-changing event.

“We hope the 2010 Asean Day Regatta will become a springboard to inspire others to initiate sailing as part of disability rehabilitation in other parts of the country. We hope to welcome many new sailors. “
