Lady Tams trounce Falcons, share 4th
MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern U made the race to the quarterfinals wide open as it repulsed Adamson, 25-19, 25-22, 25-16, to force a three-way tie for fourth in the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 second conference at The Arena in San Juan late Sunday.
With guest players Rachel Anne Daquis and Michelle Carolino combining for 30 hits, including 26 attacks, the Lady Tams caught the Lady Falcons off-guard and dictated the tempo early en route to the straight-set victory in 1:14.
It was FEU’s second straight win after dropping its first two games with the Lady Tams joining the Lyceum Pirates and their victim in fourth halfway through the single round robin elims among eight teams.
San Sebastian continued to lord it over the field with a 4-0 card, beating Perpetual Help, 27-25, 25-21, 25-18, also last Sunday to move a win away from formalizing its stint in the next round of the season-ending conference sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza.
Ateneo and surprise newcomer National U share second with 2-1 slates.
The Lady Falcons, who nipped the Pirates in five sets last week, failed to get untracked in the face of the Lady Tams solid start and reeled to their first sweep loss in the tournament organized by Sports Vision and backed by Accel, Mikasa and Excelroof.
Former MVP Nerissa Bautista struggled for just 10 kills, which stood as the team’s best output with no other Altas scoring in twin digits. Gail Martin had 8, Angela Benting made 7 and Pau Soriano and Michelle Laborte had 6 and 5 points, respectively.
In all, FEU overpowered Adamson, 45-32, had more blocks, 8-5, and turned in five service aces against the Lady Falcons’ one.
Earlier, Lyceum toppled St. Benilde in three sets to likewise even its slate at 2-2 with the match to be aired on NBN-4 starting at 2 p.m. today.
The FEU-Adamson game will be telecast tomorrow (Wednesday), also starting at 2 p.m.
