Tan, Tuason stage showdown

-

MANILA, Philippines – A duel between William Tan and multi-titled racecar driver Mike Tuason of TRS-Castrol looms as the 2010 Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring (GT) Championships stages its fourth leg Sunday at the Clark International Speedway.

Tan needed the win to firm up his hold of solo leadership in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Yokohama Tires, Pagcor Sports, Aeromed, Chequered Flag, and Stoplight TV.

But Tuason hopes to bounce back from his misfortunes, seeking a crucial victory to regain the top spot.

Following his triumph in the last leg, Tan took the No.1 spot with a 155 points and five-point edge over Tuason.

Adding excitement to the event is the Vitz Cup exhibition race.

“This will be crucial as the winner of this leg will definitely gain the top spot. Mike (Tuason) is eager to get back but I’ll be ready,” said Tan, who also enjoys the lead in the GT200 class over Dennis Uy of SEAOIL-Velocity Motors and defending champion Paul Henderson Perez.

Tuason likewise is looking forward to his fourth straight win in the GT300 division over Leo San Juan.

What really worries Tan is Tuason’s back-up from fellow TRS-Castrol teammates who may clog his path and slow him down.

Among them are Stuart MacDonald, Bobby Noriega and Marcus Wong who are holding the 1-2-3 spots in the GT125 class. The other TRS-Castrol drivers competing in the event are Ding Dizon, Sean Redpath and Finnish Veli-Mati Kaikkonen.

Completing the cast are Joey Perry and Miguel Ramirez.
