Careline beats Singapore in OT
MANILA, Philippines – Alyanna Ong buried a huge 3-point shot as Careline-Pilipinas outlasted Singapore in overtime, 86-80, at the start of ASEAN School Games Wednesday at the MABA (Malaysian Amateur Basketball Association) Coliseum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
With the win, the Nationals, backed by Ever Bilena through its chairman Dioceldo Sy, need only to beat Indonesia to advance to the finals against either Thailand or Malaysia.
Tere Aseron exploded for 22 points while Ong and Elrica Castro added 18 and 13 points as Careline-Pilipinas beat one of the toughest teams in the six-nation event for 18-years-old and below athletes.
“It was a scary win, good thing Alyanna made that trey,” said Careline-RP coach Patrick Aquino.
Also contributing for Careline-RP squad which was also supported by the Department of Education were Danica Jose, Camille Clarom Trisha Dy and Ginny Pioquinto.
Jose, daughter of former RP Youth star Bobby Jose, manned the shaded lane with authority to finish with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Aseron also had a double-double effort with 10 boards.
