MANILA, Philippines – The Manila Golden Girls blasted Pakistan in a 51-0 blowout to win back the Asia-Pacific Little League International’s 16-18 division crown while Bacolod dumped Indonesia, 29-1, to retain the Major League (11-12) girls softball plum at the Senayan Sports Complex grounds in Jakarta yesterday.
With the win, the Manila belles will represent Asia-Pacific Region in the World Series set next month in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The Bacolod squad’s title conquest also earned it another trip to Portland, Oregon for the World Series in their age level, also in August.
The Big City clouters frolicked behind the brilliant pitching of Adamson’s Julie Marie Muyco and Erica Escanuela and closer Amanda La’O to secure the one-sided win and keep the Manilans winning run in the tournament.
But the Philippine boys contingent failed in their mission as the International Little League Association of Manila team (11-12) bowed to Taiwan, 10-0, in the centerpiece little league (11-12) final encounter.
The Muntinlupa City Junior Leaguers (13-14), likewise, succumbed to their Taiwanese rivals in a 0-7 rout in their gold medal play.
ILLAM’s Big Leaguers (16-18) were still playing Guam for the title at presstime.
