MANILA, Philippines - Forest Hills flashed its familiarity with its rolling layout and pooled a 156 under the Modified Stableford scoring system to essay a seven-point victory over Aguinaldo in the fourth leg of the WGAP (Women’s Golf Association of the Phils.) circuit at the Forest Hills Golf and Country Club in Antipolo last Monday.
Mi Hee Kwak Lim, Lily Young and Grace Atienza scored 40 points each while Nelda Roguel backed them up with 36 as the hosts, who finished second to Sta. Elena in the third leg at Valley, turned in a superb game to dominate the field in the premier Class A.
In fact, Tess Staub and Cecille Tan also churned out a pair of 36s but didn’t count in the 10-to-play, four-to-count format event for the country’s leading golfing ladies.
Aguinaldo drew 41 points from individual winner Mabel Salivio and finished with a 149 for second while Alabang assembled a 139 and nipped Tagaytay Highlands in the countback to clinch third place honors in the annual event organized by WGAP.
Other scorers for Aguinaldo were Matet Salivio (39), Josie Untal (37) and Venus Hufalar (32) while Rita Horan, Marilyn Reyes, Joan Morales and Finina Gorres led Alabang’s charge with 39, 37, 33 and 30 points, respectively.
Sta. Elena, which ruled the second and third legs, struggled to finish fifth with a 136 while Canlubang had a 112 for sixth.
Tagaytay Highlands, meanwhile, took the Class B plum for the second straight time and third in the first four legs, scoring a 147 and nipping Sta. Elena by two points. Mely Leyesa led the Highlanders with 39 points while Rosario Dimson, Hedy See and Bernadette Wong chipped in 37, 36 and 35 points, respectively.
Sta. Elena shot a 145 for second with individual champion Lily Chan scoring 39, Nancy Ortiga a 37, Tami Leung a 36 and Gretchen Recto a 33, while Canlubang, led by Mia Santos’ 37 points, Paula Jimenez’s 36, Ieda Harumi and Recy Barrientos’ identical 34s, finished third with a 141.
Villamor came in fourth with a 136 followed by Forest Hills (133) and Alabang (132).
Aguinaldo also topped Class C for the second straight leg as it turned in a 154 to beat Tagaytay Highlands by four points. Marie Guerrero led the Aguinaldo golfers’ romp with 43 points while Leni Cabili, Barbie Cruz and Edlyn Robas had 42, 35 and 34, respectively.
Ma. Lourdes Roxas fired 42 points to bag the individual plum while Patricia Tan, Josefina Bautista and Erlinda Gamut made 39, 35 and 34, respectively, for Highlands’ 150 output while Forest Hills, with Anli Wu scoring 39 points, Marissa Obsuna (37), Mary Ang (35) and Mollie Tanchi (35) took third place with a 146.
Sta. Elena wound up fourth with a 145 followed by Alabang (144), Villamor (113), Valley (105) and Canlubang (90).
