Casey loses steam, bows to French bet
MANILA, Philippines - Francis Casey Alcantara dropped a 1-6, 6-1, 6-7 (9-11) heartbreaker to French Gregoire Barrere in the second round of the Wimbledon Junior Tennis Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London Tuesday.
It was a sorry loss for the 18-year-old Alcantara, who advanced to the second round by pulling off a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Argentine Facundo Arguello.
Alcantara, however, hopes to make up for his failed bid in the singles with a good showing in the doubles as he teams up with British Oliver Golding against American Denis Kudla and Raymund Sarmiento.
Another RP bet, Jeson Patrombon, will team up with Tunisian Ahmed Triki as they take on Bosnia Herzegovina’s Damir Dzhumhur and Croatia’s Mate Pavic in the first round of the doubles event.
