Floyd uncle blasts Pacman on bout

MANILA, Philippines - Jeff Mayweather is pointing his finger at Manny Pacquiao as the reason why the superfight between the Filipino icon and his nephew, the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr, isn’t happening and is not going to happen.

The Examiner did a lengthy interview with the older Mayweather who remained “very pessimistic” that the fight that everybody wants to see will take place on Nov. 13 as the fighters’ promoters are hoping

“And I think that it’s one of those situations, that when and if it doesn’t happen, everyone’s going to point the finger at Floyd, when the finger shouldn’t be pointed at Floyd,” Mayweather, the uncle, told Lorne Scoggins.

“It should be pointed at Pacquiao because Pacquiao is the reason why the fight didn’t happen in the first place, and it’ll be that same reason why the fight don’t happen this time. It has nothing to do with Floyd. I mean, this guy went into all these demands on Floyd, what he wanted.”

He said Mayweather had agreed on a couple of demands from Pacquiao, like the type of gloves to be used, and that the American who thinks of himself as the best out there would be fined $10 million for every pound in excess of the welterweight limit of 147 lb.

But when it was time for Floyd Jr. to raise his hand, and sought a random blood-testing the way it’s done in the Olympics, then everything fell off, and negotiations for the fight that was supposed to have taken place last March 13 came to a screeching halt.

Negotiations are back on, and while Pacquiao had agreed to take the tests 14 days before the fight, which was Floyd Jr.’s original demand, the boxer from Grand Rapids in Michigan now wants to get it done all the way up to the fight.

Talks about the purse split, with unconfirmed reports that Floyd Jr. wants 60 percent of everything when almost everyone else thinks that a 50-50 split is fair enough between the two superstars, are now standing in the way of the fight.

“See, Manny’s still trying to get around that whole issue. Recently, now he’s trying to say, ‘Ok. Well, I’ll do it up until 14 days’. But that’s not random then, because you know when they’re going to stop testing you. Random is actually...that’s what the word “random” means -- that they can test you at any point, at any given time,” Mayweather told The Examiner.

He said that blood testing done by the US Doping Agency on Floyd Jr. and Shane Mosley ended 18 days before their May 1 bout, but that it was still part of the random testing because both boxers were not told that it was to be the last time blood would be drawn from them.

“You know, I’m not saying that Pacquiao’s using them (performance enhancers), but if he’s not using them, he should have no problem at all taking the tests. To be honest, this is my logic, and I think this is the logic of almost every person that’s sane; If I haven’t done anything, I’m going to be bold to prove myself,” Mayweather said.
