Tarsiers stay at helm in Rexona Cup

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Urdaneta Tarsiers continued to show the way in the 2010 Rexona-Republic Cup, posting a pair of shutout wins, a 5-0 rout of the Makati-Titans and a 3-0 romp over the Manila Soccer Academy side.

The Tarsiers thus stretched their win run to four as they remained on top of the heap with 12 points.

Leading, 1-0, at halftime against the Titans, the Tarsiers exploded with four straight goals in the second half with Kenji Inukai leading the attack with two goals in the tournament organized by the Pure Play Sports-Titans Football Alliance.

The Titans reeled to their second straight loss in the day as they also bowed to the Salcedo FC, 1-3, and dropped to fifth with a 1-3 (win-loss) record.

Loyola Agila, which suffered back-to-back losses in the opening day, bounced back with a 4-1 rout of erstwhile unbeaten Caliraya F.C.

Striker Gino Tongson scored three goals for Loyola, which also pounced on the absence of Caliraya’s Ali Borromeo and Izo El Habib.

Loyola, however, settled for a 1-1 draw with Salcedo F.C. in its second match then beat MSA later to move up to second with seven points in the tournament sponsored by Balls TV as media partner, Belo Essentials, Sun Expert, The Bar Vodka, official ball Molten, 89.1, and IL Ponticello.

Caliraya is in third with six points, followed by Salcedo with four points.

Meanwhile, Urdaneta takes on Caliraya when action resumes this week.
