Tams gun for title repeat in Filoil Cup

- Kristina Noelle Villanueva -

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University, among the teams to beat in the coming UAAP wars, goes for a title repeat in the Filoil Flying V First Five Invitational Cup as it tangles with San Sebastian in the final game today at The Arena in San Juan.

The Tamaraws, who cruised past the Adamson Falcons in the semis, seek to stretch their reign in the varsity season warm-up tourney with a win over the Stags at 4 p.m.

The Stags, the NCAA titleholders, could have their hands full against the Tams as they play minus big men Dave Najorda and Ian Sangalang.

“FEU has the advantage because they have all the big men in their rotation,” said SSC-R coach Ato Agustin. “We lost all our big men to injury and that would be one of our problems.”

Najorda is nursing a knee injury while Sangalang is down with a sprained ankle.

The Tams, on the other hand, get added boost on the return of Smart Gilas mainstays JR Cawaling and Aldrech Ramos.

Adamson and Jose Rizal University, the losing semifinalists, meet at 11 a.m. in a battle for third place.

Back-to-back UAAP champion Ateneo and reigning NCAA champion San Beda square off at 2 p.m. for the championship in the Filoil Flying V Accel Badolato Juniors Cup.

San Sebastian and La Salle-Greenhills mix it up at 9 a.m. in a battle for third place.
