MANILA, Philippines - Lyceum goes all out to end the traditional domination of arch rivals Ateneo and La Salle in the Samsung Interscholastics golf championships which begins today at the north course of the Canlubang golf complex in Laguna.
New recruit Wolen Superal, the former world junior champion, heads Lyceum’s bid in the 10th staging of the annual tournament with Lawrence Celestino, recent winner of the Faldo Series Asia qualifying, Patrick Uy and Yancee Uy backing up the squad.
Also out to foil the Ateneo-La Salle-Taft title duel is La Salle Greenhills, which boasts of junior talents in Miggy Yee and AR Ramos.
Eighteen teams composed of 97 players are vying for team and individual honors in the three-day, three-division event which serves as part of Samsung’s year-round support to golf development.
Assumption, Brent, St. Paul’s Pasig and College of St. Benilde are also seeing action in the event sponsored by Custom Clubmakers, Omnisource International, BCLN Golf, Titleist, Cobra, Footjoy, ABW Leaves of Life, CranUTI and Gargol with the special sanction of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Phils. Inquirer Golf and A Round of Golf are the event’s media partners.
Samsung is staking a Samsung notebook for a hole-in-one aside from the usual prizes for the winners and special raffle items.
