Staglets, Greenies advance

- BY Kristina Noelle Villanueva -

MANILA, Philippines - San Sebastian and La Salle Greenhills topped separate rivals to advance to the semifinal round of the Filoil Flying V Accel Badolato Juniors Cup at The Arena MANILA, Philippines - yesterday.

The Golden Staglets banked on a late run as they downed the FEU Baby Tams, 75-66, while the Greenies simply outclassed the JRU Light Bombers, 71-43.

SSC-R arranged a semis showdown with Ateneo while La Salle Greenhills got a shot at the finals versus San Beda. The Final Four is set on June 11.

“I reminded the boys that they should not just rely on Gino (Jumao-as). We have a lot of shooters in the team and they must also take charge,” said SSC-R coach Raymond Valenzona.

Jumao-as, a candidate for MVP honors, churned in 26 points while Ram Pante and AJ Vitug contributed 20 and 12 points, respectively.

The Golden Staglets and the Baby Tamaraws battled through seven deadlocks, the last at 57-all.
