Ateneo bids for back-to-back titles in Samsung golf

-

MANILA, Philippines - Ateneo tries to become only the second team to score back-to-back title romp when the 10th Samsung Interscholastics golf championship is held June 9-11 at the Canlubang Golf and Country in Laguna.

Ateneo thwarted Angelicum to nail down its second win in the Interscholastics last year, also at Cangolf. Angelicum was then bidding to end the domination of Ateneo and La Salle in the annual event but fell short, blowing a 12-stroke lead in the final round.

For the Blue Eagles, it will be a big mission to complete a sweep of both Interscholastic crowns this year after earlier regaining the National Interscholastics college team title.

The Samsung Interscholastics, held under the auspices of the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines, is also sponsored by Custom Clubmakers, Omnisource International, BCLN Golf, Titleist, Cobra, Footjoy, ABW Leaves of Life, CranUTI and Gargol. Media partners are A Round of Golf and Inquirer Golf.

At least 20 teams composed of private schools in Metro Manila, including four-time overall winner La Salle Greenhills, are expected to join the 54-hole competition featuring team and individual play for college, high school and elementary golfers.

La Salle teams have actually won six of the past nine overall titles with La Salle Taft emerging as champion back in 2008 and La Salle Zobel winning in 2004 and 2005.
