MANILA, Philippines – The rivalry between defending champion Maico Buncio of YRS-Elf-Yamaha Racing and Glenn Aguilar of Enersel Forte-Ducati Racing goes a level higher as the 2010 Enersel Forte Philippine Superbikes Championship Series stages its second leg today at the Clark International Speedway.
The showdown could take an exciting turn on the wide and challenging Clark Speedway as the two ace riders are expected to unleash the best of their talents, experience and the power of their machines in pursuit of the premiere Enercel Forte Superbikes Open crown. This event is sponsored by Enersel Forte, Pagcor Sports, MTRT, Aeromed, Chequered Flag, and Stoplight TV.
The 20-year-old Buncio, seeking a four-peat crown, drew the first blood in the kickoff at the Batangas Racing Circuit, running a second faster than Aguilar to sweep both the pre-final and final races.
But following adjustments on his Ducati, Aguilar hopes to exact his revenge and even up the race for this year’s diadem.
However, two other riders – Dashi Watanabe and Jolet Jao – could stand in their way and make the race even more colorful.
Watanabe, 16, has proved his potentials against the veterans as he finished third overall aside from clinching the Intermediate crown. Jao, a former 10-time Superbike champion, is eyeing a big comeback in the superbike scene.
Joining the fray are Toti Alberto of Enersel Forte-Ducati Racing, Mario Niño Garcia, John Defensor, Raniel Resuello, Dennis Fajardo, Marlon Bagtang and Richard Soriano.
Fajardo is gunning for his second straight triumph in the Superbikes Novice while Alberto hopes a repeat in the Masters class aside from eyeing a 1-2 finish with Aguilar in the Motard division.
Also seeking their second wins are Inigo Bilbao in the the Superbikes Beginners class, Aries Padiernos in the 400cc. Unlimited division and Nikky Roman in the 400cc. Novice.
Buncio is hoping to make it a double celebration as he guns for another big victory in the 2010 Philippine Underbone King Championship series.
He’s eyeing a repeat in the 150cc Open class against Suzuki’s Johnlery Enriquez and Jaime Barcial and in the 115cc Open against another Suzuki rider Paul Mark Doblada.
Among the other favorites in the Underbone King series are Cassey Ng in the MTRT 180cc Automatic Scooter, Marvin Mangulabnan in the 115cc. Super Stock and Anthony Roman in the 130cc Open class.
