Tropang Texters roar to record 9th straight
MANILA, Philippines - Powerhouse Talk n Text established a franchise record with a ninth straight win after blasting Air21, 126-100, in the 2010 PBA Fiesta Conference at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium last night.
Shawn Daniels put up a huge double-double performance against his former team and the rest of the Tropang Texters had their contributions as the team set a new record streak, enabling them to tie the SMBeermen in the lead on identical 10-2 win-loss cards.
Talk n Text next faces Rain or Shine, Barangay Ginebra and Alaska Milk before taking on the equally formidable San Miguel on June 12 in Victorias, Negros Occidental.
“We gave away 31 points in one quarter and that’s not good. But overall, the guys came out strong and outhustled the other team. The key was our effort,” said Reyes.
“We expected a high-scoring game because like us, they attack and take quick shots. That’s what happened,” Reyes added.
The Texters scored 28 fastbreak points and produced 22 off Air21 turnovers to highlight their productive total output – the best by any team in the season.
The Express just couldn’t keep up with the Texters’ pace, losing by 26 points.
Air21 suffered an 11th loss against two wins.
It’s Talk n Text’s biggest winning margin in the last three conferences and the most lopsided win by any team in the season.
“We knew Air21 would come out strong coming from a win last Wednesday. I just told the guys the important thing is we start well. They responded well then our second team also did a good job sustaining the effort.
It’s a tremendous team effort,” said Reyes.
Former Sta. Lucia stars Kelly Williams and Ryan Reyes delivered huge numbers coming off the bench, allowing Talk n Text to enjoy 20-point margins right in the second quarter.
Williams got a game-high 26 points that went with six rebounds, one steal and one block while Reyes added 17 points, six assists and four rebounds.
Daniels came through with 20 points and 18 rebounds, a big factor as Talk n Text took the opening quarter at 35-24.
The Texters hit the 100-point mark in first 36 minutes of play – also the biggest output by any team in the tourney after the first three quarters.
