Tuason, Tan brace for GT showdown

MANILA, Philippines - Multi-titled racing champ Mike Tuason of TRS-Castrol and William Tan gear up for another showdown as the Philippine Grand Touring (GT) Championships stages its second leg this Sunday at the Clark International Speedway in Pampanga.

After ruling separate races in the kickoff leg, both Tuason and Tan are eyeing crucial wins that will give them the to solo leadership.Tuason currently holds solo lead with 55 points after clinching the 18-lap main race and finishing second in the 12-lap sprint while Tan is just five points behind with 50 points after topping the sprints and finishing second in the main race.

But out to stop them is defending champion Paul Henderson Perez who’s raring to bounce back from a dismal stint in the kickoff leg. He got disqualified for technical reasons in the sprint race. He took the front spot in the main race but lost it after figuring in a mix-up and eventually ended third.

Joining the title hunt are Nicolo Fernandez, Richard Bodestyne, Japanese Tetsuya Omura, Mark Rosca, Leo San Juan, Jeffrey Villanueva and TRS-Castrol Racing’s Stuart MacDonald and Bobby Noriega.

A feature was the 2010 Vitz Cup, a one-make Yokohama Tires and Vitz race featuring 19 drivers competing for the title in an eight-lap race.

The event is sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Yokohama Tires, Pagcor Sports, Aeromed, Chequered Flag and Stoplight TV.
