Bulls, Dolphins loom baseball series faves
MANILA, Philippines - Defending champion Batangas Bulls and two-time titleholder Cebu Dolphins have been installed as favorites to battle it out for the Series VI crown of Baseball Philippines which comes off the wraps this Saturday at the Rizal Memorial baseball field.
Experience and a lineup featuring national team players and collegiate standouts are two major factors going for the two squads in the eight-week meet presented by Dunkin’ Donuts.
Back for another tour of duty with the Bulls are last season’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) Romeo Jasmine, the UAAP MVP and best pitcher out of Adamson University, RP team players Vio Roxas, Junnifer Pinero and Chris Canlas as well as BP Championship Series MVP pitcher Vladimyr Eguia.
One-time MVP Joseph Orillana of La Salle will anchor the Dolphins’ bid.
“The veterans of Batangas and Cebu are still there, so they remain as the favorites for the Season VI title,” said Baseball Philippines executive Leslie Suntay at the PSA Forum.
Other guests were fellow Baseball Philippines officials Wopsy Zamora and Nola Bernardino together with Dunkin’ Donuts vice-president for marketing Cora Andoy and Rosanna Ledesma.
“This is our way of expressing our support for baseball since we want to elevate the passion of the Filipinos for the sport,” said Andoy of Dunkin’ Donuts initial sponsorship of the meet.
