Stockinger posts podium finish in UK race

-

MANILA, Philippines - Swiss-Filipino champion racer Marlon Stockinger took his second podium finish in the Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship recently in Rockingham, England.

Stockinger, a member of the Atech Grand Prix racing team, placed third in the first round behind teammate and eventual winner Tamas Pal Kiss and Harry Tincknell.

The 19-year-old son of Swiss racing enthusiast and businessman Tom Stockinger was holding fourth place when he found a way to move past Briton Nick Yelloly for third place on the eighth lap.

The pair battled over the position for several laps until Yelloly was forced to retire due to an engine problem. Up at the front, Pál Kiss had gradually extended his lead to take his second win in three races with Stockinger following Tincknell across the line in third place.

Stockinger had a chance to repeat in the second round, holding third place until a throttle problem dropped him down the order, ultimately ending his race on lap four.

Pal Kiss finished second in Round 2 to move into the lead.

Team principal David Hayle was delighted with the outcome.

“Tamás (Pal Kiss) once again drove exceptionally well and his second win of the season was very well deserved. Marlon was outstanding over the course of the weekend and this bodes well for the remaining races,” Hayle said.

Stockinger first scored a podium finish in the 2009 Michelin Formula Renault UK Winter Cup at Rockingham. This victory strengthens the Filipino racing prodigy’s hold on the sport he loves so much giving a shot at his dream of becoming the first ever Filipino driver to be known the world over in Formula racing.
