NGAP stages RP Seniors Am
MANILA, Philippines - The country’s leading golfing seniors slug it out for top honors in various divisions when the Philippine Senior Amateur Golf Championship is held July 7-9 at the Mt. Malarayat Golf and Country Club in Lipa City, Batangas.
Iggy Clavecilla goes for a record five-peat as he leads the field in the three-day tournament conducted by the National Golf Association of the Phils., confident of reasserting his supremacy over the field he has dominated the last four years.
Clavecilla is actually gunning for his sixth RP Seniors Am title since 2003 although the top Luisita shotmaker is expected to have his hands full this time against the likes of former champions Francis Gaston and Rolly Viray.
Gaston topped the 2004 edition of the annual event for 55 years old and above while Viray reigned in 2005 before Clavecilla strung up four straight victories in 2006 in the centerpiece Open division.
Also on tap are competitions in Category II (60-64), Category III (65-69), Super Senior I (70-74) and Super Senior II (75 and above). Up for grabs in the age group competitions, to be played over 36 holes on July 7 and 9, are the gross and net titles.
Registration is ongoing with fees pegged at P3,500 (Open) for local entries and $90 for foreign participants and P2,500 and $65 in age group divisions, inclusive of one practice round on July 6.
