SSC battles St. Benilde; UP targets fourth win

-

MANILA, Philippines - San Sebastian resumes its campaign in the Filoil Flying V Tanduay First Five Pre-Season Invitational Cup today as it battles winless St. Benilde even as University of the Philippines tangles with Arellano at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.

The Stags are currently in joint third with Adamson in Group B with 3-1 slates behind Jose Rizal U (5-1) and University of the East (4-2) but are fancied to improve against the Blazers, who remain winless after three games.

Gametime is at 3 p.m.

The UE Warriors dumped the Blazers, 86-78, to grab solo second at 4-2, while the JRU Bombers toppled defending champion Far Eastern U Tams, 77-73, in the nightcap to assume solo leadership in Group B of this tournament presented by Mighty Bond Extreme, with major sponsors Total Phils. Corp., San Marino Corned Tuna, Accel, Filoil Gas Company, Flying V and Hanesbrands, the official outfitter.

Meanwhile, UP guns for its fourth win in six games as it clashes with Arellano in the 5 p.m. main game. The Chiefs tote an even 2-2 card in Group A.

Action in the junior division dubbed the Accel-Badolato Cup resumes at 11 a.m. with Emilio Aguinaldo College taking on the JRU Light Bombers and the NU Bullpups squaring off with the De La Salle-Zobel Greenies at 1 p.m.

Tickets for the games are available through TicketNet at 911-5555.

Calvin Abueva is expected to lead SSC again the way he did in leading the Stags to a 72-65 victory over the NU Bulldogs last week.
