Canadian rider stages two-day jumping clinic

MANILA, Philippines - International equestrienne Miranda Fischer of Canada recently concluded a two-day intensive jumping clinic at the Leviste Equestrian Park in Lipa City, where some of the country’s up-and-coming jumping stars saw action.

The Equestrian Association of the Philippines (EAP) led by Carissa Coscolluela facilitated the program to help young riders learn new jumping techniques and progressive training methods used in the North American circuit.

The event is part of the EAP’s programs to bring in top caliber trainers that would help local riders be more competitive in the world stage, like the Olympics and the Asian Games.

Proceeds of Fischer’s clinic was donated in full to the Maple Tree Foundation (MTF), a group of Canadian nationals who have built not only classrooms for indigent children, but an entire self-sustaining community in the remote village of Busicong in Siocon, Zamboanga Del Norte where education is inaccessible to the village children as the only school is a distant boat ride away.

As a result, most of the village children do not attend school and the village has a high rate of illiteracy. With no education, village children are tempted to join armed rebel groups and MTF believes that education can provide the kids of Busicong a better alternative.

The EAP is committed to organizing more programs that would benefit both our young equestrians’ riding skills, as well promote social responsibility.
