Highlands smothers Alabang in Midlands

-

MANILA, Philippines - Tagaytay Highlands proved no gracious host to Alabang as it clobbered its guest, winning all but half of the four matches in the 2010 Federation Games’ home-and-away qualifiers at the Tagaytay Midlands Golf Course recently.

The Highlands ladies, headed by Sandy Prieto-Romualdez and Becky Albert, flashed fine form and won the greensome, best ball and aggregate matches while settling for a draw in the high-low to underscore their domination of their Alabang counterparts.

Romualdez and Albert set the tone for the rout by beating Alabang’s Rita Horan and Edna Nguyen with Albert wrapping up the greensome match on the par-3 17th.

Marilen Yaptangco and Farah Imperial then delivered the win in the best-ball format, outlasting Verni Varga and Vivian Chua on the 18th with Yaptangco sealing the victory with a crucial putt.

Karen Buenaventura and Totelle Dimson, on the other hand, held Christine Popp and Ui Mendoza to a draw in the high-low match before Hedy See and Gie Bote stopped Marjorie Lopingco and Feliciano on No. 14 in the aggregate format to complete the romp.

Meanwhile, Tagaytay Highlands tries to keep its hold of the top spot among six teams as action resumes today at the close of the qualifying home-and-away match plays. Alabang is in second followed by Southwoods, Sta. Elena, Riviera, and Orchard.

The semifinals is slated May 13 and 14 while the finals will be held on May 20 and 21.
