Benito eyes 2nd win in Magnolia karting
MANILA, Philippines - Roby Benito of Ready2Race aims for a second straight victory against karting’s big guns as the Magnolia Purewater Super Series stages its third leg this weekend at the Boomland Kart Track of the CCP Complex in Pasay City.
The 15-year-old Benito eyes a repeat over two-time champ Stefano Marcelo to wrest solo lead in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Magnolia Purewater, San Miguel Corporation, Petron Corporation, Denso Iridium Power, Motorstar and Aeromed.
He pulled a surprise twinkill in the last leg, ruling both the ROK Overall and the ROK Junior classes, and another big win could install him on top of the title race.
Marcelo, despite his third place finish in the previous race, kept solo lead with 134 points against Benito who’s in second overall with 98.
In the ROK Junior division, Benito is now tied with Franco Reyes of Jet Racing toting 121 points apiece with Estefano Rivera of PCR-Tough Gear-Fern C Racing, Tonyo Carcel of AUTS Racing and Cebuano Jette Calderon in the top five list.
